Secure Shell, also known as SSH, is a cryptographic network protocol used to execute commands on a remote hosting server or to exchange info between a website hosting server and a client. Since the info exchanged by the 2 sides is encrypted, a third party simply cannot intercept it, which makes SSH an ideal means of managing an Internet hosting account. The commands that can be executed are determined by the type of hosting service. On a shared server, in particular, the choices are limited since you won't have root access to the hosting server, so you can only create/move/delete files, create and unpack archives, import and export databases, etcetera. These are all actions that are executed inside the shared hosting account and don't need a higher level of access. Through a virtual or a dedicated server, you will be able to install server-side software or to restart the web server or just a particular service (web server, database server, etc.). SSH commands are submitted via a command line, and if you do not use a UNIX-like OS, there are a variety of apps for other OSs, that you can employ to connect to the remote web server as well.

When you have a hosting account with us and you want to manage your content remotely using SSH, you can easily get SSH access to the account via your Hepsia Control Panel. If your plan doesn't include this feature as standard, you can add it with a couple of clicks through the Upgrades menu. In the SSH section of the Control Panel, you will see the host, the port number and the username which you should use when you connect to the account. You can also pick what password you would like to use, since it doesn't need to be the same as the one for your account. Also, if SSH access is enabled for your account, you will be able to establish a Secure FTP (SFTP) connection via a standard client like FileZilla, for instance.

All our semi-dedicated server accounts offer the possibility to access and manage them using SSH. If the plan that you've selected comes with this function by default, you simply have to allow the SSH access feature using the corresponding section of the Hepsia Control Panel. If the feature is listed as an additional upgrade, you can quickly include it via the Add Services/Upgrades link within the Hepsia Control Panel and it will be available within a minute. We have numerous help articles and instructional videos regarding the use of SSH commands to handle your account and a full list of the commands that you can perform along with a number of examples to give you a better understanding of what you could do. If SSH is enabled, you will also be able to establish an SFTP connection to the account and to upload data safely and securely using any FTP app that supports the feature.

The VPS server offers that we offer include SSH access by default, not as an additional upgrade or a feature that you should enable. The minute your new server is ready, you will be able to connect and begin working on your content through the login details that you've entered through the order process. A copy of the SSH credentials shall be sent to you via email as well. Because your VPS shall be isolated from the other ones on the physical web server, there aren't any limitations as to what you can or cannot do using SSH. You could download, install and manage any piece of software that will run on a Linux machine, reboot the entire server or only a specific software component, and work with files, folders and databases with no restrictions. All you will require for that is a console or an SSH client on your end.
